Most can. Text-heavy documents compress dramatically. Very long scanned documents — say 100+ pages of high-resolution photographs — may not reach 10MB while staying readable. In that case we return the smallest usable version and tell you the target was missed, so you can split the document instead.

We always try the gentlest setting first and only escalate if the file is still too large. For typical business documents at 10MB, text stays perfectly sharp because it remains real vector text — only embedded images are downsampled.

There is no page-count limit. The practical constraint is memory rather than pages: a 500-page text document compresses easily, while a 500-page high-resolution scan may exhaust memory on a lower-spec machine. Closing other tabs frees up headroom for very large jobs.

Not directly. Encrypted PDFs must have their password removed first, which you can do in Acrobat, Preview on macOS, or by opening the file and re-printing it to PDF with the password supplied. Then compress the unprotected copy here.

Yes. Drop in as many files as you like and they are queued automatically. Processing is deliberately sequential rather than parallel: compressing several large PDFs simultaneously would compete for memory and can crash the browser tab, so each file is handled in turn.

Compression is one-way, but your original file is never modified — it stays exactly where it was on your device. The compressed version is written as a separate download, so you always retain the source and can simply try again with a gentler preset.

Text always stays sharp because it remains real vector text rather than an image. Embedded photographs are downsampled and re-encoded, so quality loss scales with how aggressive a preset you choose. Less Compression is visually near-identical to the original.

Because it was already efficient. Files that are mostly text, or that were exported by a tool which already downsampled its images, hold very little recoverable waste. Large savings come from oversized embedded images — where there are none, there is little to reclaim.

You can compress them, but be aware that any modification to a PDF invalidates its cryptographic signature — this is true of every compression tool, not just ours. If the signature must remain valid, do not compress the signed document.
