Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my presentation PDF so much bigger than the PPTX?

PowerPoint stores each image once and reuses it across slides. Exporting to PDF can flatten each slide into its own rendered page, duplicating shared backgrounds and logos dozens of times. Our engine detects and deduplicates those repeated images, which alone often halves the file.

Will my charts and diagrams stay readable?

Yes. Charts exported as vector content are never rasterized and remain perfectly crisp at any zoom level. Charts pasted in as images are downsampled to display resolution, which stays clearly legible on screen and on a projector.

Does this work for Keynote and Google Slides exports?

Yes. Once exported to PDF the origin application is irrelevant — the engine works on the PDF structure itself. Keynote exports in particular tend to be very image-heavy and often compress by well over 90%.

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on the content. Scanned or image-heavy documents commonly shrink by 70–95%. Text-only PDFs that were already optimized may only drop 5–20%, since there is little redundant data left to remove.

Can I compress a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Encrypted PDFs must have their password removed first, which you can do in Acrobat, Preview on macOS, or by opening the file and re-printing it to PDF with the password supplied. Then compress the unprotected copy here.

Do you support PDFs with digital signatures?

You can compress them, but be aware that any modification to a PDF invalidates its cryptographic signature — this is true of every compression tool, not just ours. If the signature must remain valid, do not compress the signed document.

Do you keep bookmarks, links and form fields?

Yes. Bookmarks, the table of contents, internal cross-references, hyperlink annotations and interactive form fields all survive compression. Only the encoding of images and content streams is altered — the document's structural and navigational layers are preserved.

Can I choose exactly how much to compress?

Yes, in two ways. Pick one of four calibrated presets for a quality-led decision, or switch to Target Size mode and enter an exact figure in KB or MB. Target mode steps through progressively stronger settings and stops at the highest quality that still fits your limit.

Which browsers are supported?

Any modern browser with WebAssembly support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi, on desktop and mobile alike. There is no minimum specification beyond that — older or lower-powered devices simply take longer on large documents.

Is the compression lossless or lossy?

Both, layered. Structural optimization — removing duplicate objects, dead revisions and metadata — is entirely lossless. Image downsampling and JPEG re-encoding are lossy, which is where the substantial savings come from. Text and vector graphics are never touched by either stage.
